The Global Preparedness Monitoring Board (GPMB) is encouraged by the latest developments on the Pandemic Agreement and the International Health Regulations (IHR) at the 77th World Health Assembly and would like to recognize the drive and dedication of the negotiators who achieved this significant result.
The agreement on a package of amendments to the IHR—together with the decision to forge ahead and finalize the Pandemic Agreement text over the next year—are very important steps towards a safer world and greater human security. Finding a way to address the complex issues of collaboration and cooperation among a group of 194 states with very diverse needs and risk profiles should hearten us all as we look to the road ahead and renew our faith in multilateralism for the common good.
The GPMB supported the Intergovernmental Negotiating Body (INB) process by organizing informal multistakeholder dialogues in February and March 2024 and remains committed to maintaining that support in the months ahead. In particular, equity must remain at the centre of discussions. This is not only a moral responsibility but also essential for human security and stability.
